How are Cataracts removed?

Cataracts are removed using a procedure known as phaecomulsfication. This means that an ultrasound probe is used to emulsify (liquefy) the lens (phakos- is the medical term for lens). The surgery is performed in an operating theatre under local anaesthetic.
